Dates for the birth of Jesus often hover around the period from 7-4 B.C., although the birth could be several years later or possibly earlier. The signs in the heavens which the Magi saw were much more subtle, and indications are that King Herod and the Jews did not even notice them. If so, they may have had some knowledge of the Scriptures since the prophet Daniel had also lived in that region centuries earlier. Perhaps, the Magi used this particular well before they then sought the source of “Living Water.”. endstream endobj 4 0 obj <> endobj 22 0 obj <> endobj 23 0 obj <> endobj 24 0 obj <>stream 3When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. This position was right where a woman carries a child in pregnancy. For example, a planet may appear to be standing still in the heavens when compared to the backdrop of the stars which, due to the rotation of the earth, appear to be rotating as a group across the sky. No, we don’t know all the details regarding how the Magi knew which house held the child Jesus. * Was it a planetary conjunction? On that day the ‘King planet’ stopped its lateral motion through the stars and remained stationary for about six days. The problem with this theory is that a conjunction of two planets – even if they were seen to have merged so that one appeared directly over the other – simply could not be referred to in the singular as a “star.” Also, conjunctions of two or more planets do not move together for long periods of time. as viewed from Jerusalem, Jupiter came to its normal stationary position directly over Bethlehem on December 25th. More likely, they were unconcerned because they were not even looking for the Messiah who had been foretold in Daniel’s prophecy (Daniel 9:26). Also, gifts were brought to him and he was worshiped, according the scriptures. Originally Answered: What star appeared at Jesus’ birth? In addition, the Chinese do not describe the comet of 4 B.C. Most probably not, as comets were typically regarded as harbingers of evil, not of good.. Why the elephant is losing its tusks (and it's not evolution!). Once the Magi arrived in Bethlehem – having been “led” by the Star of Bethlehem, whatever that “star” actually was – how was it that the Magi knew exactly which house Jesus was in? The ``wise men from the East'' pay homage to the ``child'' Jesus rather than to the ``newborn'' Jesus (contrast that with the Nativity scene of popular society today!).
